ABOUT

WHAT IS THE KAMLOOPS MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL ASSOCIATION?

The KMBTA is a mountain bike trail management and maintenance organization that works in partnership with various land managers and land owners to provide public access to trails in the Kamloops area.  The primary roles of the KMBTA are trail maintenance (trail work, signage, planning, etc.), trail construction, trail related infrastructure development (parking, washrooms, kiosks, etc.), fundraising, and advocating for continued public access to trails in the areas we maintain.

The KMBTA is extremely grateful to operate and recreate on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory, situated within the unceded ancestral lands of the Secwépemc Nation. We honour and respect the people, the territory, and the land that houses our community.

WHY DID WE CHANGE OUR NAME?

When the previous name was choosen and the KPCC was established, our primary focus was managing the Bike Ranch, with an emphasis on competition-oriented experiences—hence the name Kamloops Performance Cycling Centre.

Since then, the Kamloops Bike Ranch has grown into a trail network that riders of all levels can enjoy. As ridership expanded in Kamloops, so did the need for more sanctioned trails. With an experienced team of trail builders already involved in the Bike Ranch, KPCC took on the management of additional trail networks, including Harper Mountain, Pineview, and the winter riding trails at Isobel Lake. This growth has reshaped our organization and highlighted the need for a name that truly reflects what we do.

WHAT DOES THE KMBTA DO?

  • The KMBTA currently manages four recreational trail networks in the Kamloops area under various agreements. The areas under our management are:

  • The Kamloops Bike Ranch and All Wheels Pump Track Facility

  • The Pineview Recreational Trail Network

  • The Harper Mountain Bike Recreation Site and Trail Network

  • The Isobel Lake Winter Trail Network (Fat Biking)
Please view the individual webpages for more information, Trailforks, or the official landowner / manager’s websites for official information.

  • Management, maintenance and development are generally outlined by our agreements with the various landowners / land managers who we report and are accountable to. The KMBTA is a trusted advisor and we contribute to setting goals and objectives based on industry best practice and considerations unique to Kamloops.

  • While the KMBTA is a small, yet agile, organization, we do rely heavily on volunteers and the public at large to help us perform trail maintenance, so if you have any questions, see a tree-down, a sign missing or an area that needs some love, please do not hesitate to contact us at kamloopsmbta@gmail.com

  • The KMBTA also undertakes several fundraising initiatives and events related to capital and operational projects. We are fortunate to receive limited year-over-year funding via landowners/land managers that are central to maintenance, and we supplement funding through fundraising, grants, private donations/contributions and contributions via our partnership with the Kamloops Bike Riders Association (KBRA).

  • The KMBTA is not a membership based organization, as such, no membership is required and our trails are free to the public.  Public donations are accepted, with all donations contributing to trail maintenance and management.

WHAT ARE SOME OF OUR PROJECTS?

In the last three years, the KMBTA has been involved in more than $2 million of trail related infrastructure projects. Two of the large capital projects were:

RECENT CAPITAL PROJECTS

  • KMBTA CERIP PROJECT - Community Economic Infrastructure Recovery Program (2021-2023)
This project resulted in three new parking lots (two at Harper, one at Pineview) being designed and constructed in conjunction with kiosks, wayfinding and signage. Further the project included the redevelopment of the ‘Ramblin’ On trail into a 5km long beginner friendly trail named Cucwell. The project also included fencing, construction of a toilet and other trailwork.

  • Kamloops All Wheels Pump Track Facility - Destination Development Fund (2023-2024)

This project is a partnership between the Kamloops Sports Council, Tourism Kamloops and the KMBTA. The KMBTA contributed heavily to the project, while the Kamloops Sports Council was the project lead due to receiving a large portion of the funding from the province. The project, when complete, will result in three new pump tracks being constructed at the top of the Kamloops Bike Ranch, fencing, signage, kiosks and a new parking lot.

 2024 OPERATIONAL PROJECTS
These projects are under our normal scope and are provided here as an example ongoing maintenance and larger operational projects.
